Tourism Min to organize exhibition for blinds in August

BANGKOK – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has joined hands with Chulalongkorn University and Silpakorn University organizing a special kind of art exhibition, specifically to be appreciated by the blind.

A press conference for the art exhibition was held at the Pathumwan Princess Hotel on the 21st May 2013, with Tourism Ministry Permanent Secretary, Dr.Suwat Sittilor(สุวัตร สิทธิหล่อ), Vice President Office of Chulalongkorn University, Assoc.Prof.Tanit Tongthong (ธนิต ธงทอง), Professor Paiyan Banjongklaing(ไพยันต์ บรรจงเกลี้ยง) of the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, Asst.Prof. Dr.Sukree Sinthupinyo of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University and actress Khemanit Jamikorn attending the conference. At the end of the conference Dr. Suwat, Assoc.Prof Tanit, and Miss Khemanit were blindfolded to demonstrate a viewing of the 3-D artworks.

Sarocha Kittisiripan, a third year student at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University who has been blind since birth, said she was touched to be able to experience art and images, something she had never before imagined would be possible; and that she always dreamed of seeing the sea and beautiful landscapes, things she had only been told about.

The exhibition will be held to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 81st birthday. 81 photographs will be selected to be transformed into 3-D carved artworks in order to make a dream of enjoying pictures and artworks come true for the blind.

The exhibition will be held at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center from August 13th-25th, 2013.
