As the Paralympics continue this week in London, Rio De Janeiro prepares in becoming the next host city by meeting to ensure both paralympian and visitor needs are met.

The Brazilian tourist board, Embratur, have put together a panel in order to make the venues and the city accessible to tourists across a range of abilities. This was also held jointly with a conference aimed at introducing the various destinations Rio has to offer. The seminars, entitled ‘Discover Brazil’ and ‘Tourism and Accessibility in Brazil’ were held at Casa Brazil; a location taken on by the Brazilian tourist board in London at Somerset House designed for visitors to the city for this years Olympics to discover the next occasion and what it will have to offer.

Along with acting as a platform from which to promote their interpretation of the summer games for 2016, the seminars also allowed concerns in regards to disability access in the city and how best to approach the issue. This has been a follow up from 2010 where a group of 4 volunteers with a board spectrum of disabilities travelled over two months in each of the 14 cities where events will take place. This practical research helped orientate where concerns rose in order to improve them for 2016.
