Scooters For Disabled Provided At Greenock Cut Centre
The scheme is thanks to a partnership between Inverclyde Council on Disability and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.
Carol Kearns, Inverclyde Council on Disability manager (ICOD) said: “I applaud the hard work of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and ICOD board and group members in making Greenock Cut accessible for disabled people.
Through funding from The Robertson Trust, ICOD have been able to provide two mobility scooters on site at Greenock Cut Visitor Centre for public use enabling disabled people to take part in leisure activities and community events in the countryside.”
Charlie Woodward, regional park manager said: “The Park Authority are delighted to be working in partnership with ICOD. The opening of this service demonstrates the park’s commitment to increasing access for all to the wonderful natural and historic assets on our doorstep. The restoration and access improvement project on Greenock Cut, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, was completed in 2010 and has already led to an increased use of The Cut. This new service extends access for more people to enjoy the countryside for improved health and well being.”
Janice Smith, ICOD Board Member and Shopmobility service user said: “Many of our service users, board members and staff have enjoyed taking part in rambles along The Cut throughout the years and now, with increased access and the provision of scooters on site many more local disabled people will have the opportunity to access the Park. ICOD look forward to planning and taking part in many more rambles over the years. We would like to thank all staff, volunteers of both Clyde Muirshiel and ICOD for making this project accessible.”
Scooters are currently available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and can be issued between 10.30am and 2pm. Anyone interested in the service can contact ICOD on 01475 732 600 or to book a scooter directly, phone Greenock Cut Visitor Centre on 01475 521458; booking in advance is advised.
